There is water in ponds, and there is a lot of water in lakes. Water flows in rivers. But, water does not flow in ponds or lakes. There are animals and fish in rivers. Historically, people transported cargo in rivers. Many cities get there drinking water from rivers. Children play in rivers. Rivers are often in the bottoms of valleys. Many rivers run from the mountains to the sea. But, there are rivers which don’t reach the sea, for example, Idaho’s Big Lost and Little Lost Rivers. Those rivers flow from the mountains, but after the mountains they sink into the ground. In Utah there are rivers which flow to a salt lake. Rivers join other rivers. When many rivers join together, they become a big river.
