What's the difference between the following two?
1. "I am sorry that A didn't share their problems with us."
This is what I said to A's parent in English. After I hung up with the call, I wondered I should have said another way like this:
2. "I wish A had shared their problems with us."

What I wanted to say is that they should have talked about their problems to us, if they had done that, they wouldn't have dropped in such a difficult situation.
I am afraid that what I actually said (1) sounded that we were responsible for that. I didn't mean that at all. I think that the student themselves first should have taken an action to solve their problems.
