“Kenkokukinen-no-hi” is National Foundation Day celebrated on February 11. It is originally named “Kigensetsu” established in 1872 as a day when "Nohonshoki" (Chronicles of Japan) said the Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan, ascended to the throne. It was abolished in 1948 under U.S. occupation. In 1966, “Kigensetsu” was renamed the National Foundation Day and was added to national holidays with revisions to the National Holiday Laws. It was come into effect from February 11, 1967.
