This study is effective in establishing a period time which is critical for the development of the faculty of language. Children pass from a universal competence of discriminating sounds to a more specific target language oriented skill. It also tries to set up an age for this kind of change which will be useful for further research. In fact, it will be very interesting to follow future studies which may take into other cognitive faculties that develop at the same age. An aspect to take into account is the bias that may proceed from using sounds that are adjusted in a laboratory. The Thomson uvular contrast seems to be not the perfect choice for this kind of experiment as the contrast of the uvular involves a different pronunciation of the following consonants and it is clearly perceptible only in few words.
