For Dante mixed languages were the corruption of purity while Machiavelli believed that every language was fundamentally mixed with others. "Dante's history of language, like his account of politics, takes its bearing from the original and final unity of men. Machiavelli, on the contrary, begins with human diversity and difference. Languages, like politics, are mixed bodies which, lacking innate wholeness, tend by themselves to disintegration, which only human effort can forestall." In other words, any linguistic unification comes from God.
