します と しています

So, "何をしますか" means "what are you going to do?" While "なにをしていますか" means "what are you doing?" Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anytime I use te form for verbs, whether it's mid-sentence like this: 私はコラを飲みことが好きです Or at the end like なにをしていますか does it mean it's something you say only when it's happening right then? Does that mean I can't say 私は 食べます if I'm currently eating? Would I have to say 私は 食べています Or is 私は 食べます Correct?
