An old mechanical watch often had an inscription “so-many stones/gems” (gem and stone both are one word in Russian). Tiny sardiuses used in watch like as bearings for watch mechanism’s axes. The more stones had watch, the more was watch’s quantity and prize. The number of stones could be a reason for bragging or envy.
The joke.
Somebody has a new watch and showed it to friends. One friend asks, “How many stones it has? 23? That’s good!” Another friend says, “The watch lack two stones.”
The watch’s owners asks surprisingly, “Why for?”
“A stone to put the watch onto, and another to hammer on the watch from above.”
