Questions about Reading “Emma”3
He (Mr. Knightly) always moved with the alertness of a mind which could neither be undecided nor dilatory, but now he seemed more sudden than usual in his disappearance.
I looked up the dictionary. Dilatory means slow to act. Alertness means being alert.
I do not understand the meanings of “the alertness of a mind which could neither be undecided nor dilatory.”
Does it mean that he always let others know his leaving directory?
