WHO IS ALAN CHAN?
Fortunately, this afternoon, I rushed to Alan Chan’s solo exhibition “ Who is Alan Chan?…the journey of art since 1960s discover Alan Chan’s 50 years of creative paths” at Whitestone Gallery.
On his birthday, he guided us to his famous artworks and several private objects including letters, albums books and more. We could see how his beautiful creativity come from through different elements which brought him inspirations.
One obvious feature in his artworks is blending Eastern and Western cultures. I like the aesthetics of conciseness such as Chinese ink wash painting, calligraphy, Japanese culture and Zen. New creativities are born from these old spirit stuffs.
Looking for the emotional common from the stream of visual arts and music, while the relations between frames and paintings imply our views to the world, the poetic interest behind the artwork called “Connection” touched me. Mr. Chan not only told the stories but also shared his life wisdoms with us.
I felt a kind of comforted and inspired by this exhibition.
Finally, he gave everyone a bamboo leaf which is very familiar plant in our culture. But I feel the unique texture of this leaf once again at this moment.
WHO IS ALAN CHAN?
