Before I moved to Finland the only one thought about a possible phone call and phone conversation in English was a nightmare to me. I was sure that I was not possible to explain anything in English without gesticulation. However, reality forced me to act against my fears, because in Finland you have to use so-called e-services or call by phone if you need to book a doctor appointment or solve some bureaucratic issue. E-services can be used only after verification of identity in the police which costs a lot and takes quite time. So I didn't have a choice and I have started to talk to people by phone in English regularly. It is not so bad, however, I believe that it is because I do not talk to native English speakers by phone. Finns are really good in English in general, of course, but they are still not native speakers.
