Yesterday, I went to visit Chenonceau Castle in the Loire Valley. It’s at several hours by train from the city where I live, but it was really worthy. It’s a beautiful castle with an interesting story.

The castle is also called “The ladies castle” because it was the property of several queens and ladies over the years. The most famous one was the French queen, Catherine of Medicis.

During the Second World War a part of the castle was the only access to the free zone. The owners facilitated the smuggling of all those fleeing Nazi tyranny.
